Coffee Shop Etiquette

I'm sitting here at Starbucks, sipping a vanilla latte, when in comes a couple and sits down to talk loudly, laugh loudly, and watch a video on their laptop loudly. No headphones. Rude. Coffee shop etiquette please!

When listening to music or watching videos on your devices, use headphones. Nobody wants to hear your stuff, especially when there's store music playing.

It's not a library, but keep your voice to a volume that doesn't travel outside your table. Frequenters know to take phone calls outside or at a corner like by the bathroom. I'm not a big fan of this because I'm wary of leaving my things behind. So if ever I must answer my phone, I keep my voice to a minimum or text the caller back. Some people disagree about your voice level. Coffee shops are social spaces, not public spaces. They are considered semi/quasi public spaces. You can enter without the obligation to buy anything, but you can't do activities inside without purchase or prior notice, or activities that impose on other patrons or coffee shop owner/owner's rules.

Don't hog or bog down the wifi. This happens when someone streams or downloads movies or other large files. There are other people using the Internet, so please share the bandwidth/connection.

Buy something from them about every 1.5 hours and don't bring in outside food.

Only take up necessary space. It's not your own personal office, so share tables, chairs, and outlets.

It's not a daycare either. If you have a small child in tow, keep that child beside you at all times. It's dangerous for children to run or walk around in a coffee shop on their own. Think about all those hot drinks, computer cords, and hard furniture.

Clean up after yourself.

Really it boils down to common sense and courtesy. Sadly, some people lack those.
