Summer Dates

With school out and the weather sunny, here are some of our summer date ideas.

Okay, this first one isn't so original but going to the movies is a great way to beat the heat and spend over an hour together. Just be careful of crazy expensive movie theater food. It's not worth it. And you might think that going to the movies isn't either because ticket prices are soaring high. But there are a lot of ways to save on your movie tickets. First, buy them in bulk like at Costco or Sam's Club. A package of 2 tickets is really much of a bulk sale, but each ticket ends up around $7. At AMC theaters, movies cost $6 for showings before noon. A lot of theaters also show older movies or DVD released movies for just a few bucks, and cities have some movie nights at select parks or baseball fields (see your city's website).

Festivals is a great way to spend time with your significant other (or a group of friends). Music, art, food, and cultural festivals abound in the summer. They usually have free admission, but carry extra cash for food and random buys. Find festivals now so you don't miss out. Visit your city's website, scour Craigslist or Facebook events, and web search "[your city name] festival 2012" or local events.

Want to sweat it out together? Take a hike! Literally. Or visit a national park and hike up to natural wonders. Not only do you get to spend time together in a beautiful setting, but you'd help keep those parks open and exercise at the same time. Find a national park here.

Want another way to support a good cause while going out on a date? Volunteer a day to a local charity or soup kitchen.

Summer is the best time for country dances, but you've got to find them! You may not think it, but country dances, even square dancing, can be very fun! You just need an open mind and a willing attitude.

For a more relaxing day, try fishing or horseback riding together. These are actually activities that you can do as beginners. Many fishing store employees are very knowledgeable and willing to teach you the basics. Many companies also offer horseback riding lessons.

There are a lot of activities you can do in the summer, and a lot of those activities are great ways to spend with your (potential) significant other. Don't just eat out together. Get creative! And have fun.
