Savvy Souvenirs
Summer is heating up. Have you been on vacay yet? If you're planning on going on vacation, here are some quick tips on buying souvenirs on a budget. Let's be realistic, everybody is on a budget! So be savvy and cost effective with your souvenirs. Here's how.
Buy gift sets.
You can easily split the items inside a gift set. We took a trip to Disneyland & Disneyworld and had a long list of people we wanted to bring back souvenirs for. Instead of buying each person a souvenir that costs an average of $20, we bought gift sets that had duplicates of the same item. We saved a lot of money, and gave each person something special from our vacation.
Buy in bulk, buy sale items, or buy from non-specialty/general stores.
Just because you buy something in bulk, or buy sale items, or buy from a general store doesn't mean that your souvenir is not as special. When we went to Hawaii, we bought chocolate covered hazelnuts from Walmart. They were in bulk, on sale, and from a general store. They were also so yummy that we bought some for ourselves! You're not required to buy souvenirs for other people when you go on vacation. It really is the thought that counts. On that note, bulk items, sale items, or generic items can be just as special and enjoyable! And they won't break your wallet.
Send postcards.
Postcards won't add to your luggage. Is is the same thing as getting something from where you vacationed. Plus, in our extremely digital world, it's a nice snail mail surprise. You do have to do a little prep work. Before you leave for your vacation, have a list of names and addresses. Also have a book (or two) of first class stamps already with you so you don't have to hunt for a store that sells them. Generally, postcards cost less than first class to send, but still use first class stamps to ensure delivery. You should also send the postcards on the first two days of your vacation so they will reach their destinations while you're still away (it's more fun that way).
